Just say NO to offshore drilling

[If you want to bypass my short rant and get right to petitions and articles, scroll down to get right to the links at the end of this article]

Only a few days after getting upset about Obama’s reversed stance to allow offshore drilling on the East Coast, I read the headlines about what will likely become the biggest and most disastrous oil spill ever.

The worst oil disaster of all time.

A piece of machinery costing .004% of BP’s 2009 profits might have prevented the Gulf of Mexico oil spill that is currently threatening the U.S. gulf coast.*

I’m still livid about the Chinese oil tanker bashing into the Bay Bridge in 2007 and sending tons of crude into the Bay–oil that eventually found its way to the shores of Fort Funston beach, where I take my dog almost every weekend.

If you’re not upset about this latest move to open American waters to offshore drilling–along with this disaster in the Gulf of Mexico–you should be. This is water you ultimately swim in, bathe in and drink. Our oceans are a delicate ecosystem that provide sanctuary and sustinance to hundreds and thousands of land and marine animals. Eleven people died in this latest débâcle. Offshore drilling has proven time and time again to be unsafe and environmentally destructive.

Please take a few moments to sign the e-petitions and read the articles below to completely ban offshore drilling, and tell your representatives that your vote goes to those who say NO to the oil companies who will never stop lobbying to continue the practice.
